A connected family is one whose members are connected to each other in growing relationships of mutual knowing, loving and enjoying one another. Parents that are well connected to their children know how to be both their friend and their parent. For this connection in the home to have its full expression, members also learn to connect outside the home, building a community of mutual support. Finally, members of connected families understand that connection in the earthly realm is fueled through spiritual connection. Therefore, connection spiritually becomes the source for connection relationally in the home, and for connection through service or ministry to others. Simply said, a deeply connected family is one that plays together, works together, serves together, and worships together. Through this kind of connection, children are fueled to go into the world, faithful and purposeful.

Families these days are generally less connected than at any time in the history of the world. By this we mean that family members typically disconnect by becoming busy with their own agendas at a young age. When kids and parents get involved more in non-family activities than in family-oriented activities, they begin to disconnect. As they are together less with the most important people in their lives, family members cease to learn how to conduct close relationships. Even families that try to stay connected get easily caught up in the frenzied culture of disconnection.
